I first worked in Disaster Relief Operations through the summer volunTEEN program. There, I volunteered as part of the Missing Maps Initiative, where I mapped routes to under-resourced communities in images taken by satellite technology, which is especially important for disaster relief.
I loved the volunTEEN program so much that I soon decided to join a year round Red Cross club. I currently serve as the Youth Action Board (YAB) Representative. I represent my local club at the quarterly Regional Calls, which are meetings held by the Youth Advisory Board for local clubs to exchange ideas and make club collaborations.
My favorite Red Cross Project was making cards for the annual Service to the Armed Forces’ Card Drive, which sends thank you cards to our military veterans. You see pictures of that on the right!
I’ve worked with the Red Cross for over a year now, and it has been an amazing experience. As an active member, I present to you 3 ways you can get involved with the Red Cross.
- Donate to disaster relief: scroll to the bottom on this site https://www.redcross.org/about-us/our-work/disaster-relief.html
- Summer volunteering with the Red Cross: http://redcrossyouth.org/2022/06/21/june-monthly-focus-summer-volunteering/
- Join a Red Cross Club:
If your school has a red cross club, consider joining that. If not, I suggest creating your own. If neither of those options work for you, I participate as the YAB representative of the Hayfield Community Red Cross Club. Email me at aryabansal1@gmail.com and I can help you get involved!
